It's a really fascinating play, and should be given credit where credit is due: in tandem along with 'Takin' Over The Asylum' the year before, it definitely jump-started David's career by helping him get noticed for further jobs after his move to London.
I've seen the play where it's archived at the NT Archive in London and have to admit I wasn't that impressed. I'll go into why (and much more) when I get to my deeper dive into the play, but for today I'll just say it's definitely too much of a period piece to hit as effectively today. David was as good as ever, though. It just wasn't to my tastes!
Can't wait for your deep dive into What the Butler Saw itself....I'm intrigued about that!
