Great post, Patricia! Oh, I'd almost forgotten about these poems again! Frantically searched for the Classic FM CDs years ago - and was not disappointed with what I got :D About time for another listen, I should think!

I'm counting sixteen tracks with David on the track list - but looks like it's just "Brush up your Shakespeare" that's missing from the list above.

Also, now I'm curious - do you happen know the story behind Classic FM Romance as well?

Anja - thanks so much for this information! I have copies of the three "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" by Cole Porter tracks featuring David stored in my 2013 audio files, because David read them on BBC Radio Berkshire on the Mike Read show in October 2013. So - though I saw Cole Porter mentioned in the series' printed book - you'll understand why I was hesitant to add it to a list from 1998/2009, because I had them dated 2013! Since you have all sixteen DT tracks, you must have the original compilation from 1998, so I would love to get with you to compare the audio I have with yours, to see if the readings are different. I might not have the 2013 radio broadcast recording at all, and mine are just wrongly attributed. This is exciting!

I plan to do some research about the earlier Classic FM Romance compilation as well, for a future post.

I think l must have died and gone to Heaven! Thank you so much for the link to David’s fantastic narrations! He brings words to life in such a fabulous way. I could listen to him read the old phone book or a dictionary and it would be amazing. These are pure gems! Thanks again.

You're very welcome! I also don't want to forget to give my thanks to reader Anja for passing along her much better quality recordings so I could offer the best version of them.

And you're right - David's just brilliant in the audio-sphere. I'm with you about the phone book. I find myself wishing he'd do Google Maps narration or something, but it's probably for the best he doesn't, given I'd likely never arrive at my destination....or get a ticket for distracted driving!

If you liked this post, don't hesitate to poke around the other posts I've done on all manner of David's work - obscure theatre, trivia, more audio and narration. Don't miss all of David's brilliance, and if you look hard enough, you'll find more you can download and listen to (hint: go find 'Tuesdays & Sundays' in the Audio section!)

(ETA: reposted due to spelling mistakes!)
