Today my David Tennant exploration thread goes a new direction - instead of his theatre or audio work, today I’ve chosen to feature one of his oddest performances on film.
I will (not-so-guiltily) admit I clocked him once on the Gracepoint film set from that particular bend in his thumb. He was on a break from filming and was laying on a couch scrolling on his iPad...I wasn't sure it was him until I saw how his thumb bend holding the tablet.
Lord, I sound like a stalker!!! HAHA! Honestly I wasn't - I was just passing by! I left him alone because it was his down time, but when he sat up and it was him, I remember thinking to myself, "He must have unique thumbs if I can recognize him from them!"
Oh my goodness, what a joy to actually see him. I have not met him; however, I was his father-in-law's assistant when Peter came to Tampa, FL in the 80's to appear at the traveling Doctor Who exhibit. I am really impressed with your research and enjoy the updates! :>)
I've met him dozens of times, as I used to write for one of the two major unofficial websites dedicated to his career. He's a top gent, that's for sure. I love that you were Peter's assistant! And finally, I really appreciate the compliment re: my research. I've been at it for close to a decade and have been nose-deep in archives and libraries all over the UK. There is SO much more to share... I've only touched the tip of the iceberg. I can't wait to keep sharing it with everyone!
When you say his thumb bends in a particular way...do you mean he has a hitchhiker's thumb? I have the same so I know what they look like. I'm looking through my pics and I think I can see it. I've never noticed!
No....though recently, Georgia has done an Instagram reel showing that she's got one! What I mean about David's is his sort of does the opposite - he has verrrry long fingers, so his joints are longer than many people's (I think the average male thumb is 2.5 inches long, and I bet David's is longer than that - especially the top joint of his thumb to its tip in relation to the top joint down to where it joins with his hand). When he bends his thumb joint, his thumb also doesn't curve upward at all and lies super straight; this straightness is noticeable, and what I see in the frame of One Eyed Jacques that makes me believe it's David!
Now that you've pointed it out, yes I think it is him. I don't think I would have noticed it, myself, though!
Love your research. I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface - so much to discover about DT's career!
He's done SO much, there's plenty to explore!
I have never noticed his thumbs before, however, he has very long, slender fingers. I will have to watch for the thumb bend, lol.

I believe he is there.
So do I!
