How interesting! Initially, I was thinking of the BBC series 'Merlin' when I read the title. The actor who plays Merlin in that series was in a Doctor Who episode with David (Midnight) and reportedly watched David very closely to learn as much as he could from him! So cool to find out that David played in an adaptation of the 'Merlin' story himself, too.
That's Colin Morgan, who - believe it or not - ALSO graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire) - in 2007!
Ok, i'm not (any more) into Diana Gabaldon - I read the books, but I know this actor and - well, it's a small world. The play by Tankred Dorst shows King Arthur as a marionette and weak character (not a very common take), so this critic is a good example why critics are always subjective.
Indeed! I'd intended to speak more about this interpretation in a future post about Merlin in particular, but yes - Dorst intended to portray Arthur in this way (and David played it as such). I imagine David felt rather put upon when uneducated critics lambasted him for playing the character exactly as it was meant to be played!
Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey is the rule of order here. The thrill of the hunt and finding these intersections is pretty thrilling! Great installment in DTs career timey wimey-line.
I love this issue soooo much! Love that Sam was inspired by David even though the reviewers did not like his portrayal. I just read a NG note where two reviewers hated a story that he wrote so much, he locked it away - to paraphrase him it when from folder to box to basement to attic. 20 years later he pulled it out and thought - this is good, and this is funny, and so he submitted it again. It ended up winning Short Story of the Year. Opinions are good but trust your gut, and sometimes you have to wait for its time.
I also love what you wrote about the Jamie/Jamie connection. I thought the only connection between DT and Sam was the Scottish one, but you, my dear, sniffed out a trifecta. Well done!

I believe we shall change the age old adage to "Six Degrees of David Tennant!"
That would take us far, I bet!

A nice light story that shows that even the great actors have their moments- and learn from them.
Yay! We've reached the first time I ever saw him!
And I'll write more about 'Merlin' in future posts...but hey, you can say you share this intersection with David AND Sam Heughan!

I'm glad you enjoyed my trivia dive. I love it when good things come together!
